Cold Chain IQ | 05/10/2012

Cold Chain IQ is in the fortunate position to work with a great number of knowledge leaders and well known figures within the cold chain logistics industry. While compiling our whitepapers, articles and webinars, and by attending our global portfolio of events we get to see plenty of good business people, but there are some who we believe make it to that next level – they are true leaders in their field. Each part of this series identifies one such leader and explains what we think sets them apart from the rest.

Dr. Ýmit Kartoglu Technical Officer and scientist, World Health Organization (WHO)

"All of these guidance documents naturally explain "what" needs to be done. The real challenge is to help industry with "how" to do guidance through documenting good practices, says Kartoglu.

After starting his career in Turkey, where he served at all levels of the national health system for over 10 years, Dr. Kartoglu joined UNICEF in 1994 and has been with the WHO since 2001. He brought to life the WHO-UNICEF Effective Vaccine Store Management initiative; Global Training Network for Vaccine Management; and Performance, Quality and Safety project. Currently Dr. Ýmit Kartoglu is coordinating the prequalification work for all equipment and devices used in immunization services.

"Members of the pharmaceutical supply chain have various global requirements to meet during the storage, transport and handling of time and temperature-sensitive products. Changing product portfolios, requirements for good storage and distribution practices, regulatory expectations, quality management, and risk assessment factors bring many challenges to the handling of drug products," Kartoglu says.

Dr. Ýmit Kartoglu is passionate about teaching and he has developed a variety of course, tools and games for learning. He also coordinates the Global Learning Opportunities for Vaccine Quality.

"My work with the United Nations gives me a tremendous exposure to a myriad of different cultures and a very diverse mentality - the one which you most unexpectedly find in different corners of the world" he says. "Searching for diversity has become my passion. Diversity boosted by creativity, humour, passion is what I look for in teaching, learning and designing," says Kartoglu

He received four international awards in the field of research and communication, including the 2010 IQPC Cool Chain Excellence Award and the 2011 Ludwig Rajchman Public Health Award.
