Pharma Logistics Glossary: Single-use packaging
Otherwise known as disposable packaging, these basic containers transport batches of medicine and are disposed of after one use. Passive temperature control is used with this type of packaging. These containers have a significantly lower upfront costs than a reusable solution in regards to sourcing, purchasing and then the maintenance of stock levels. However, disposal costs should be considered also. Open ended distribution with these containers eases the operational burdens of return logistics. In regards to the disposal of these containers and their insulation, pharma firms may be faced with environmental issues in regards to waste conduct. For example - are there dangerous goods involved or environmentally dangerous elements if it is burned or brought to a depot?
