Pharma Logistics Glossary: Dry Ice
A material used to passively control temperature in the transit of medicines.
Advantages: Reliable in temperature stability and extensive duration, can last for 3-5 days – much cheaper than liquid nitrogen. Good for frozen temperatures -78°c.
Limitations: Health and safety considerations with handling – substantial cold temperatures when solid and with the material being an asphyxiant. Regulations must be met in the shipping of this material.
